The Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Aize Obayan, has commended the Faculty, Staff and Students of Architecture Department of the University for their consistency in the gown/town relationship tagged Archifuse 2010.
Archifuse is the annual event by the Society of Architecture Students of the University which brings the students and the professionals together to rub minds on contemporary issues in the practice. This year was the Fourth Edition.
The Vice Chancellor speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday praised the efforts of the organizers at bridging the gap between theory and practice which was in line with the University’s philosophy of departure from Form to Skills.
She was particularly excited about the Theme, “Architecture and Signature” saying, “We can not design outside the current events.”
Professor Obayan also stated that the programme was a way of preserving the profession from extinction like some others. She also commended the department for bringing back it graduates to join the faculty and producing three PhDs for the department.
“What is happening today shows that the future is secure and part of the University’s successive plans which will serve as a bridge for student and professional world.” Quoting Isaac Newton, the VC added that Archifuse was all about standing on the shoulder of the giant.
Corroborating the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, Dr. Daniel Rotimi stated that the programme was in consonance with what the University stands for through qualitative education.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Architect Tunji Bolu assured that Covenant University had all it take to study architecture saying the University is a good place to stay. He however promised to register all the students in Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) as his personal contribution to their professional qualification.
Faculty present at the event were the Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor James Katende, Deputy Dean, School of Environmental Studies and HOD Architecture, Professor Olajide Solanke, Distinguished Professor and Grand Father of Architecture Professor Ekundayo Adeyemi and the University Chaplain, Pastor (Dr.) Ntia Ubong.
Others were Principal Partner, Lawson + Odeinde Partners, Architect Theo Lawson, Architect Adeoti Akintayo of Shalom En-Consult International, Architect ‘Dare Gbadegesin of GSK Consult and his wife Adebola.
The four-day event also featured Seminar, Exhibition Design Competition, Football Competition and Dinner to round off the activity.
