A team from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), on an accreditation visit to the Department of Architecture, Covenant University, has reiterated the importance of resource verification in institutionalising professionalism in architecture in Nigeria.
Architect M.E. Omatsone, who led the team, had during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor and the University management, said the visit to the Covenant management was about evaluating the programme's academic resources and ensuring that it conformed with expectations of the regulatory body.
Arc. Omatsone stressed that the team's assignment was to look at what was available in the Department and make necessary suggestions to advance the programme.
According to him, ARCON was proud of what Nigerian architects were doing globally. He said existing standards needed to be maintained and improved upon to remain relevant, nationally and internationally, in the profession of architecture.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said Covenant was known for excellence, both academically and in respect of industry-relevance of her products, to contribute to the body of knowledge.
Professor Adebayo assured the accreditation panel of unfettered access to information in the course of its assignment in the Department, taking into account that the exercise was to revalidate the quality of Covenant's academic standards and improve on what was being done towards matching excellence.
Members of the University management present at the courtesy visit included the Registrar, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Oluwagbenga Kiki; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Temidayo Omotosho; Head, Department of Architecture, Professor Pearl Okpoko; Director, Vice-Chancellor's Office, Dr Omotayo Osibanjo, and other senior faculty in the Department of Architecture.
