Nexford University Mulls Partnership with Covenant to Expand Access to Quality Education

A partnership with the aim of advancing and expanding the frontiers of access to quality tertiary education in Nigeria is in the works between Covenant and Nexford Universities. This was after the recent official visit by a team from Future Africa and Nexford University on a courtesy call to the management of Covenant University.

Speaking during the visit, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nexford, Mr. Fadl Al Tarzi, said the need to expand the frontiers of accessing quality education in Nigeria in partnership with Covenant is all about making quality accessible to all.

Mr. Trazi, who came in the company of Mr. Iyin Aboyeji and Dr. Olowatobi Stephen, said his desire is to see Nexford University partner with Covenant University to increase the accessibility of quality education, ensure subscribers to that partnership are given the very best that is available in learning, and upskill them to become effective in their learning and professional lives.

He said the intended partnership will entail leveraging the competencies of Covenant to make education for all a success story. "The curriculum of Nexford has been carefully tailored to make graduates valuable and relevant to the world of work, and working with Covenant will further strengthen our resolve to have education geared towards problem and solution solving, which is vital in birthing an economic revamp in Nigeria," he posited.

Mr. Trazi said when the relationship gets underway, Nexford will be open to hosting a learning space on campus for those who desire to visit the university campus and learn on their own time.

Mr. Iyin Aboyeji said he was enthusiastic about the prospects that the partnership holds for both institutions. According to him, "I come here with a sense of hope that the youths of this country will take advantage of opportunities such as the one that Covenant and Nexford University are putting in place to flip this country from the present challenges to fulfil her full potential, thus gaining global relevance."

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, appreciated the futuristic approach to learning that the team was presenting before Covenant while recognising the need to navigate the impediments that may be associated with the regulators of tertiary education in Nigeria.

Professor Adebayo said Covenant University is very intentional in its approach to partnerships, and as such, it will ensure adherence to quality in order to sustain the standard and best academic practices globally.

He said the Covenant University Distance Learning Centre will be open to reviewing proposals from the team and searching out possible areas of collaboration ahead of the full-blown commencement of Covenant University’s open distance learning programmes.

Present during the parley were the Registrar, Covenant University, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Olugbenga Kiki; Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Professor Omotayo Osibanjo; Director, Covenant University Centre for Research Innovation and Discovery, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku; Director, International Office and Linkages, Dr. Isaac Akinwumi; and Director, Covenant University Centre for Open Distance Learning, Dr. Mayowa Agboola.
