Covenant University’s Mass Communication Students Clinch Prestigious ARCON Colloquium 2.0 Award for 2024

Covenant University has added another accolade to its impressive list of achievements as students from the Department of Mass Communications secured the first prize at the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Colloquium 2.0 Competition for 2024.

The students triumphed over competitors from several Federal and State universities, including Ebonyi State University, Lagos State University, Rivers State University, and Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State. This victory highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of Covenant University's students.

Upon their return, the jubilant winners were warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo. He expressed his admiration for the students' remarkable achievement, especially considering they were preparing for their Omega Semester examinations. Professor Adebayo initially had reservations about allowing the students to participate in the competition due to their exam schedules but was ultimately delighted by their success. He praised the students for overcoming significant challenges, including the illness of their lead speaker, and still emerging victorious.

Professor Adebayo encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence and to carry the spirit of victory with them as they transition from university life to their future careers. He emphasized that their success reflects the high standards and quality of education at Covenant University.

Dr. Stella Aririguzo, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, also commended the students and thanked the University's Management for their support. She pledged that future competitions would see even greater preparation and success, promising more accolades for the University. Dr. Aririguzo urged the students to continue working hard and represent Covenant University positively in their professional endeavors.

The victorious team won a prize of 1 million naira and received free air tickets to various destinations, further adding to their celebration. This achievement not only enhances the University's reputation, but also sets a benchmark for future students to aspire to.

Also present at the meeting, were other faculty members of the department, which includes Dr Tunji Oyedepo, Dr. Darlynton Yartey and Dr Thelma Ekanem.

The champions later took a group photo with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo and they also had handshakes with him.
