In a colourful and globally significant ceremony, the Management of Covenant University (CU), in Canaan Land, Ota, commissioned its Waste to Wealth initiative (W2W). The event which took place on October 8, 2014, amidst lots of excitement, featured the formal launch of specifically labelled waste bins, which would be used for the first phase of CU’s initiative to drive environmental recovery in Africa.
Covenant University has flagged off a Waste to Wealth initiative (W2W) as part of her drive to create a sustainable environment and generate revenues from environmental waste, thus reducing the pressure and consumption of virgin materials. The project is expected to cover peculiar aspects of solid waste management in the University, which include refuse generation, source reduction, collection, transportation, recycling and resource recovery, composting and combustion.
The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo, has charged the Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of the University to work assiduously towards enhanced service delivery in the University, for both internal and external patrons.
Monday, September 03, 2007, was a day of joy and fulfillment of dreams for newly admitted students and their parents as the freshmen commenced formal registration and other academic activities in Covenant University aka Hebron- the birthplace of kings and queens.
Covenant University’s 16th Public Lecture will critically examine the threads that weave together selected issues on globalization, energy, education and poverty in a world made flat by the ever-evolving information and communications technology with a view to identifying their inherent opportunities and challenges, as well as proffering solutions is on the way forward in actualizing the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of Poverty Eradication by the year 2015.
Activities marking the commencement of 2007/2008 academic session of Covenant University kicked-off on Friday, August 31, 2007 with great expectations having members of the University management and faculty/staff appreciate God for His awesome help during last academic session, while strategizing for the success of the new session.
At a strategic meeting in the morning of Friday, August 31, 2007, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, led members of the Management team in a reflective rendition of a hymn titled, ‘O God, Our Help in Ages Past’, to appreciate God for His awesome help in the last academic session that culminated into outstanding achievements and prayed for His continuous grace upon the University in the new session and beyond.
The Vice Chancellor in her opening speech after a retrospective assessment of the last academic session, acknowledged that it was obvious God has given Covenant University a lot of things to be grateful for, adding that as the University looks unto Him again, He will go ahead of the University and help it even in the ages to come. She also thanked God for the quality leadership and support of the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo and the entire members of the University Board of Regents.

The Vice Chancellor enunciated the focus and goals of the University in the new academic session. According to her the University would strive for local, national and global prominence as it attracts and graduates outstanding students. She said the University would also attract, develop and retain a renowned faculty as it promotes research, innovations and ICT consciousness and application. The University would also drive a truly corporate culture, entrench best practices and ethical/quality benchmarks as well as increase its community impact and presence via all programmes and units of the University.
The Registrar, Yemi Nathaniel in his own remarks said he was not surprised that the University was succeeding because it has a unique pedigree of success, which forbids retrogression. He said for the University to continue to enjoy success, however, it calls for setting of new targets, strategies, handwork and close bonding among management and staff.
The Registrar challenged colleges and departments to constantly set goals and be accountable to such goals, which he said had become a global hallmark of every corporate institution. He said such practices would always put an organization in the forefront for healthy competition.
He stressed that the opportunity, which this new session provides is one that opens new vistas and targets, while urging the faculty and staff to treasure the students more in line with the University’s in loco parentis role. He also presented the goals of the University’s Central Registry and Administration for the 2007/2008 academic sessions.
Other members of the Management who presented goals and expectations of their respective Colleges and Departments for the new session included the Dean, College of Business & Social Sciences, Professor Mathew Ajayi; Dean, College of Human Development, Professor Charles Ogbulogo; Dean, College of Science & Technology, Professor James Katende; and Dean of Postgraduate School, Professor Olusola Ojo. Others are Director of Financial Services, Mr. N. Taiwo; Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Daniel Rotimi, and Acting Director, Centre for Learning Resources, Mr. Chris Nkiko.

There was also a Friday Faculty Fellowship in the evening to mark the new session. It was a very solemn event as faculty members sang hymn and praised God for His faithfulness during the last session. There were also outstanding testimonies by some faculty members of God’s Grace upon their lives in 2007/ 2008 academic year. The Deans and Principal officers also used the occasion to formally welcome their faculty and the entire University community to the new session.
Meanwhile the University is not resting on its oars as it has appointed Academic Advisors for 2007/ 2008 academic session and a high-powered Committee on Reception for both the returning and new students was also announced during the occasion. Professor Amole of the Department of Architecture chairs the Committee on the Reception.
