Professor Folarin Wins 2020 Science Communication Award

A senior faculty at Covenant University, Professor Sheriff Folarin has emerged recipient of the exalted “2020 Science Communication Award for Third Most Contributions in The Conversation Africa”.

The Conversation Africa (TCA), based in Bloemfontein, South Africa, is a part of The Conversation global media consortium founded and based in the United Kingdom. It is the world’s leading media organisation, which publishes research-based analyses every month.

The journal - which promotes scholarly methodology, as against regular journalistic approach in the presentation of perspectives - accepts written contributions. Also, it publishes scientifically researched and academically referenced writings from intellectuals in academic institutions, established private scholars and other professionals globally, on any topical issue in the humanities, sciences, and all other fields.

The awards ceremony, initially billed to hold in Bloemfontein but held virtually due to the pandemic, had in attendance founders and publishers of the journal, scholars from Africa and beyond and sub-regional editors and awardees from around Africa.

According to the organisers, Professor Folarin’s award was informed by the number of his papers in TCA published between November 2019 and October 2020 and because of the tens of thousands his articles attracted; and reactions, comments and public engagements the articles generated.

In his reaction to the development, Professor Folarin, currently, the Head, Department of Political Science and International Relations, stated: “To God be the glory, The Conversation Africa has in the past one year given me more international visibility, causing global news networks in South Africa, United States and South Asia to engage me regularly in interviews.

“Each time an article is published, I get interview requests from where I do not expect. The best part was an encounter I had with the CNN earlier this year, which I mentioned to the 5th Vice-Chancellor and Dean of CLDS. I will encourage colleagues in Covenant to endeavour to contribute for TCA.”

To God alone be all the glory!
