Covenant Commissions Operational Science Laboratory at Unity High School

Covenant University, under the auspices of her Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CUCDIIC), has commissioned a standard secondary school science laboratory for pupils of Unity High School, Kajola-Iboro, Atan, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The process, which started with the revamping and renovation of the school laboratory, culminated in the donation of standardized laboratory kits, apparatus and agents to facilitate the teaching of science in the remote school.

 

While speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, represented by the Dean, College of Leadership and Development Studies, Professor Olujide Adekeye, commended the evolvement of a working relationship between the University and Unity High School. The association, he stated, was anchored on the vision of the University to train the upcoming generation towards rescuing the destiny of the black race.

 

Professor Adebayo said Covenant was eternally committed to helping willing partners develop education tailored towards life-applicable skills. “Education must move from the realm of academic knowledge acquisition to the development of soft skills targeted at solving myriads of issues bedeviling the nation,” he added.

 

He encouraged pupils of the school to make the most of the laboratory by developing more significant interest in science and technology, and see themselves as critical players in helping to shape the nation and the world into a better place.

 

The Zonal Education Officer, Mr J. O. Bamgboye, commended the proprietor-base and Management of Covenant University for their magnanimous gesture towards the community. He noted that the education board at the local government level was proud of what the University had come to represent in the community, both in her corporate social responsibility to the community and putting the local council on the global map.

 

Mr Bamgboye tasked the students to take advantage of the unique teaching aids that Covenant was making available to them, by making sure that they show promising results in their science subjects going forward.

 

The Chair, Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CUCDIIC), Dr Tayo George, said the University was happy to be a channel for the advancement of education, which was the founding philosophy of the University about unshackling the knowledge-base of the black race.

 

Dr George reiterated the commitment of the committee to continually promoting community development initiatives at all levels within the Ado-Odo/Ota axis and beyond. “With the commissioning of this laboratory, we look forward to the emergence of the next sets of geniuses and great inventors emanating from the quality tutelage of sciences in Unity High School,” she enthused.

 

In her response, the Principal of Unity High School, Mrs Janet Olaokun, was exhilarated with joy and gratitude. Mrs Olaokun thanked the University Management and members of the CDIIC for helping to rewrite the story of Unity High School.

 

The school Head Boy, Michael Ayeni, appreciated Covenant for the resources expended and the material investment in the school. He promised that the students would remain ever grateful for the privilege to have access to laboratory tools to learn real-time, courtesy of the CUCDIIC.

 

Also present at the official commissioning of the laboratory were the Registrar, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora, represented by the SAR, Registrar’s Office, Mr Olumuyiwa Vincent, Head, Education Sub-Committee, CUCDIIC, Dr Odaro Osayande, members of the CUCDIIC, members of the Unity High School Parents Teachers’ Association including teachers and students of the school.
