Accreditation teams to the programmes of Covenant University - Mass Communication, Biological Sciences, Economics, and Political Science and International Relations - have assured the University Management of fairness and thoroughness in the evaluation of resources for the programmes.

Professor Fredrick Eze, speaking on behalf of other members of the four accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC), said the exercise was about evaluating the aforementioned programmes. He added that the exercise also involved the review of existing resources to ascertain they were more than enough to support the training of upcoming professionals in the diverse fields of human endeavour.

Professor Eze noted that the assemblage and quality of academics on the ground for the accreditation exercise was a pointer to the importance the nation’s universities regulatory body placed on the assignment.

While thanking the University Management for the hospitality accorded them since arrival, Professor Eze assured concerned Departments of fairness, transparency and objectivity in carrying out the exercise.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said the mandate of Covenant University, as unveiled by God to the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, had been the guiding principles behind the running of the institution, which had resulted in her meteoric rise within the short period of her existence.

He appreciated the existing relationship between the NUC and Covenant while noting that the University was always eager to open her books and subject herself to quality peer reviews towards improved academic excellence, as members of the University had also been involved in similar processes.

Professor Adebayo said Covenant University was open to constructive criticisms, all in the quest to improve on the quality associated with the Covenant brand. “We have been ranked among the elite universities in the world, and we have also seen how that has impacted the nation’s education landscape, as more Nigerian universities have improved on their quality, and are now ranked among the world’s best,” he enthused.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of every accreditation exercise, noting that it was always an opportunity to learn something new about processes, and relearn and help best practices, both in governance and academic system.

Present at the courtesy meetings were the Registrar, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora and other members of the University Management including the Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Temidayo Omotosho, and Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Uwalomwa Uwuigbe, represented by Professor Phillip Alege.

Also present were Head, Department of Economics, Professor Evan Osabuohien, Head, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Professor Daniel Gberevbie, Head, Department of Biological Sciences, Professor Solomon Oranusi, and Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr Kehinde Oyesomi amongst others.
