The Vice-President Education, Living Faith Church Worldwide, Pastor (Mrs.) Faith Oyedepo has admonished the outgoing students of Covenant University to discover their place in destiny to fulfil it.
She gave this warning on Thursday, May 20, 2021, during the Special Convocation Service, which was part of the activities marking the 15th Convocation Ceremony of Covenant University.
While delivering her message titled, ‘Finding and Occupying your Place in Destiny’, Pastor (Mrs.) Oyedepo, a Regent of the institution, declared that one’s place in destiny was a place of dominion and distinction. It was wise to take time to discover one’s place in the future to fulfil it, she stated.
She pointed out to the graduating students, “Your course of study may not necessarily be a pointer to your destiny. Take time to discover your place in destiny. That is the only thing that will satisfy you at any point in future. Discover and occupy your place in destiny. It will give you what money cannot buy. There’s no return match in life”.
The Regent cited examples of men and women in scriptures with great destinies, like Paul, Nehemiah, David, Esther and others. She mentioned four keys to finding and occupying one’s place in future. One of them, she stated, was to be spiritually sensitive. “You must be able to adapt the sensitivity of an Eagle. You must develop your spiritual antenna to know what God is doing per time (1 Corinthians 2:14). For you to be spiritually sensitive, you must give room to the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues (Proverbs 1:7),” she explained.
The second key, according to her, was that one must have a fear of God. “Your level of the fear of God determines how far you go in life (Ecclesiastes 12:13; Malachi 4:2). The fear of God means living to please God as a lifestyle (Amos 3:3). The fear of God must be your purpose for a living if you must soar like an Eagle. The fear of God also means the love of God. Joseph lived in fear of God (Genesis 42:1). Daniel feared God, and he was relevant throughout the reign of four kings,” she posited.
Pastor (Mrs) Oyedepo said the third key was to start from where you are (Genesis 13:14). She said that everything big today started from something small. In her words, “start from somewhere and be ready to start small. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. Your ability to handle small things will determine if you can handle the big ones”.
According to the Vice-President Education (LFCW), the fourth key was gratitude, which must be one’s attitude to climb high altitudes in life.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, congratulated the Board of Regents of the University, the Management, faculty and staff as well as the outgoing students for a successful end of an academic session despite the challenges that elongated the session and delayed the graduation of the graduating set.
He explained that the outgoing set was not tagged “World Changers” by chance, as it clearly showed in the myriad of challenges that accompanied their academic journey that they had to overcome to get to that point in time.
While making his remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Oluwasegun Omidiora, gave thanks to God for His mercies that had brought the University thus far. He encouraged the graduating students to be thankful no matter their academic performance. He admonished them to keep their faith in God as they embarked on the next phase of their journey into adulthood.
Also at the event was the Keynote Speaker of the 15th Convocation, Dr Valentine Obi, Founder and Group Chief Executive, eTranzact Global, Nigeria; and other members of the University Management.
