Chancellor Exhorts Graduating Students on Embracing God

The Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo, has urged the recently graduated students of the University to move closer to God to receive grace for success in all their endeavours.

While speaking during his words of exhortation to the graduands at the Convocation Opening Assembly that preceded the 2020 Convocation Ceremony proper, Dr. Oyedepo advised them not to depend on their skills and education to make it in life. He said, “If you bank on your skills, it may kill you, 1 Samuel 2:9, ‘By strength shall no man prevail’.”

He stated that the graduands needed to settle with God to have a settled life, and with a strong position in God, there was no limiting the future that awaited them. According to him, “the ball is in your court, receive grace to play it well. Legacy is the impact you make on lives.”

The Chancellor asserted that there were no ceilings to anyone’s destiny as the only person who could stop a man’s way forward was the man himself. He advised the graduands to create a culture around their lives that would make a future.

He pointed out that his consistency with God over the years was what had given birth to what the graduands saw in the University environment. “Only fools doubt proofs, so make God the centre of your life. You can’t be anywhere beyond where grace places you,” he added.

Dr. Oyedepo warned the graduands against unbridled lust for money as those who chased after money ended up mourning.; they should live their lives to be a blessing, and know their mission and stay on it.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, congratulated the graduating students, stating that they were the luckiest graduands so far, with the convocation coinciding with the 40th anniversary season of the proprietor base.

Professor Adebayo stated that the University community owed God thanks for the immense grace and mercy poured on her this past trying months, especially during the lockdown season. He appreciated the giant strides that the University had taken in the education sector since its inception.

While making his remarks at the event, the Registrar, Dr. Oluwasegun Omidiora, congratulated the graduating students and commended their tenacity and adherence to the disciplinary measures and policies of the school that culminated in their successful stay on the University campus.

Also at the event were other members of Management, faculty, and staff of the University.
