Covenant University's 21st Public Lecture will critically explore the virtuosity of mud structures as may be found in the major Nigerian/African cultural context, especially their suitability in contemporary building structures with a view to creating a typical Nigerian or African vocabulary for architecture.
The lecture, titled, " Meaning and Relevance in the Nigerian Traditional Architecture: The Dialectics of Growth and Change" will be delivered by the first Professor of Architecture in Africa, Professor Ekundayo Adeyemi, on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the University Chapel by 3 pm.
Professor Adeyemi is a Distinguished Professor of Covenant University and currently the Head, Department of Architecture of the University. He was also the former Dean of the University's College of Science and Technology.
Before joining the University's faculty, he had held various administrative and academic positions in many institutions of higher learning, including Acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria.
Professor Adeyemi is a Member of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Fellow of the Architect/Educators in Nigeria and an Associate of the American Institute of Planners (AlP).
