Covenant University Chemical Engineering Department Emerges Overall Best at the 2022 National NSChE Annual Design Project Competition

For the second year in a row, students of Covenant University’s Chemical Engineering Department have clinched the top position at the annual National Design Project competition organized by the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) for students in all Chemical Engineering Departments in the nation’s tertiary institutions for 2022.

The Project Design Competition, an offshoot of a course titled Design Project (5 units), is a compulsory hands-on course done by all final-year chemical students throughout Nigeria.

Following a call to submit entries for the 2022 edition by the Chemical Engineering professional body, the National Headquarters of NSChE selected the best three designs for the award.

As a precursor to the submission of entries, Covenant University’s Department of Chemical Engineering students were divided into nine groups and supervised by a group of five lecturers to work on the same design project, and of the nine competing groups, the design work from group 4 of seven students was adjudged the best and won the National Design Competition.

The Head, Department of Chemical Engineering at the University, Professor Vincent Efeovbokhan, appreciated God for these uncommon feats and thanked the management of Covenant University for creating the enabling environment that has helped the faculty, staff, and students of the Department to stand tall among their peers at both national and global frontiers.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo appreciated all supervising faculty towards the competition for instilling academic excellence in the students and positioning the Department on a sounding footing amongst their peers from other institutions.

The supervising faculty for the groups were Dr Oladokun Olagoke, Dr Ayodeji Ayoola, Dr Olayemi Odunlami, Dr Edith Alagbe, and Dr Francis Elehinafe. It is the second time in a row that the department has won the coveted first prize, which came with a plaque and cash prize of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000.00).
