The leadership of the Data Scientists Network (DSN) has announced Covenant University as the host institution of the 2023 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bootcamp, scheduled to take place from August 14th through August 20th, 2023.
The Lead Mentor/Chief Executive Officer of DSN, Dr. Bayo Adekanmbi, made this known when he led a team from his organisation on a courtesy visit to the management of the university. Dr. Adekanmbi said the Bootcamp will attract 30 experts from various fields of human endeavour, with 12 of them coming from outside the country.
He said DSN has become one of the foremost organizations in AI product and research-related matters in the country, and the AI conference, being an all-expenses-paid event, will engage in a rigorous selection process that will result in shortlisting only the best of the best.
According to Dr Adekanmbi, participants for the boot camp will be strictly merit base, as the conference will also serve as a recruitment ground for event partners such as Microsoft, Google, BigML, Nvidia, etc. as well as researchers and expert open resources and curated content from the top global institution.
He said the AI Bootcamp processes for selection of the 500 finalists will start from March 20th to April 22nd in over 150 cities in the 36 states of Nigeria and 13 African countries, while the 50-day AI Bootcamp pre-learning study will run from April 15th to June 3rd, with hackathons taking place from June 5th to June 26th.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, thanked the team for choosing Covenant as the host institution and assured them of the readiness of the university to host the conference.
Professor Adebayo said the exceptionality of students at Covenant University in the subject area gives him assurance of their dominating the list of participants, as they have constantly brought their ingenuity to bear both in academic and entrepreneurial endeavours.
He posited that the enterprising spirit of the students and the products of the university have seen them dominate the start-up ecosystem of the nation and at the same time remain the preferred employees by many corporate organisations and diplomatic institutions in the country.
Present during the courtesy visit were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye; Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Olugbenga Kiki; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Timothy Anake; Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Professor Omotayo Osibanjo; Head, Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Professor Funke Oladipupo; and Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services, Engr. Boladele Akanle.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Adekanmbi presented Professor Adebayo with a copy of his book, "Beginners' Artificial Intelligence and Python Programming," which is designed to give kids the needed leverage to compete favourably in an ICT-driven world.
