The leadership of Northeastern University, Boston, United States of America, has indicated an interest in establishing a mutually rewarding relationship with Covenant University. This much was unveiled when the Head of Enrolment of the University, Mr. Frederic Ndiaye, visited Covenant University Management recently.
Mr. Ndiaye, who was accompanied on the visit by the Senior Assistant Director, Africa, Northeastern University, Mr. Olakunle Shanu, said his visit was geared toward having a better understanding of Covenant and seeing the possibility of evolving collaboration in research and enrolment. According to him, Northeastern University is interested in promoting diversity in the learning and knowledge environment.
"The senior leadership of Northeastern University is interested in building something with Covenant, and I hope we can review existing frameworks and see how to get a workable Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the management of this University within the shortest possible time," he enthused.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said Covenant was open to developmental partnerships that will advance the interests of both institutions. According to him, every collaboration that is in line with the short and long-term vision of Covenant will be vigorously pursued.
Professor Adebayo noted that no unilateral MOU has ever been impactful, as they don’t tend to serve the interests of Covenant or the partner institution. As such, the University management will be seriously concentrating its efforts to drive MOUs that are fashioned to have bilateral rewards.
During the interaction, it was highlighted that possible collaboration areas should include evolving innovation hubs, bioinformatics and biotechnology research, and teaching exchange programmes among other areas of mutual interest.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye; Acting Registrar of Covenant University, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Gbenga Kiki; and Director, Covenant University International Office and Linkages, Dr. Isaac Akinwunmi, were some of the members of Management on the ground to receive the visitors from Northeastern University.
