The Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has asserted that spiritual well-being is the master key to all-round well-being of man, as the fear of the Lord covers all areas of life.
He made this statement at the Friday Faculty and Staff Fellowship, which doubled as the Resumption Assembly of the faculty and staff of the University to the concluding part of the Alpha Semester in the 2023/2024 Academic Session, held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the University Chapel.
Speaking during the event, he announced that it was time to engage practically in word practice. He stated that all that is needed to make living great, has already been put in man’s hands, but most times, it is not seen or recognized as a result of lack of insight. “Redemption holds everything we need and may our eyes be opened to make redemption enjoyable. Redemption offers us all things that make for life and godliness, but the access is in being able to see,” he added
The Chancellor further explained that the genuine rest that redemption offers is in the ability to see, and a blind man cannot see anything, no matter how big or how sparkling it is. “May every spiritual blindness be healed today,” he declared
“Befriend your Bible this year. There’s no level of intellectualism that compares to spiritual understanding. There’s no scientific explanation to spiritual realities, (Job 18:10-21). Get on a hunt for the treasures of life. Every divine secret demands the fear of God. May this year be a year of years for you,” he opined
He advised faculty and staff to stop the habit of arguing with God and learn to go where God is leading them to go; stating that when God blesses a person, no devil or his agents can curse the individual, (Psalm 112:10). He added that it is futile for anyone to try to bribe God with giving as a substitute for obedience, as giving cannot be a substitute for obedience, stating that there is always what we must do to secure God’s purpose in our lives.
“When your record with God is good, man has no choice than to honour you. God keeps records. You can’t lobby grace, you follow to connect with grace,” he stated
The Chancellor concluded by reiterating that the year 2024 shall be a year of fortune, where God will change many people’s stories in astounding dimensions.
In his remarks at the assembly, the Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, welcomed members of the University Community back from the Christmas Holidays, and enjoined everyone to prepare to hit the ground running as the school works towards the conclusion of the Alpha Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
He pointed out that there are preliminary things that must be put in place as well as some reviews that needs to be made in order to be ready to receive the students as they resume and begin the academic exercises on a good note.
“And as we prepare to receive the students this week, let’s be ready to start classes on Monday. Some who have not uploaded their lecture notes should endeavor to do that,” he advised
