Covenant University Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence During ARCON Accreditation Visit

Covenant University's ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement was underscored during a recent visit by officials from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). The five-member team, led by Architect Mayor Omatsone, included Architect Moyo Uthman as Secretary, Architect Tiwalola Fadeyibi as Examination Officer, and members, Architect Ladipo Lewis and Architect (Professor) Akunnaya Opoko, visited the Department of Architecture for an accreditation evaluation.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo welcomed the ARCON officials and expressed the University's readiness to support the accreditation process. He highlighted the importance of the visit and reiterated Covenant's dedication to producing top-quality architects. He assured the team of full cooperation and openness to feedback, emphasizing the institution's commitment to continuous improvement.

During the feedback session, Architect Omatsone praised the University's beautiful environment and the confidence of the students. He noted that Covenant students are among the best, capable of competing globally. Omatsone also highlighted the courteous nature and comportment of the students they encountered during the visit.

However, he recommended better facilities for the faculty, a separate building for the Architecture Department, and the hiring of new lecturers. Additionally, he suggested scholarships for ARCON programs and other architectural events to foster idea exchange and collaboration.

Architect Omatsone advised students to ensure their licenses are obtained correctly and warned against issues of concurrency in certification dates. He concluded by stating that the final accreditation results would be communicated by the University Registrar.

Head of the Architecture Department, Professor Adedapo Oluwatayo, expressed gratitude for the Management's support and appreciated the ARCON team for their thorough evaluation. She highlighted the learning opportunities the process provided and praised the team's regulatory role in ensuring the department adheres to the highest standards.

Dean of the College of Science and Technology, Professor Timothy Anake, and Director of the Academic Planning Unit, Professor Emmanuel Amoo, also expressed their gratitude to the ARCON team. They acknowledged the valuable feedback and committed to implementing the suggested corrections.

In her closing remarks, the University Registrar, Mrs Regina Tobi-David, thanked the ARCON team for their detailed observations and thorough work. She assured them that the University would address the recommendations before the next visit and emphasized the Institution’s commitment to continuous improvement.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo, concluded, by thanking the ARCON team for their honest feedback. He reiterated the University's commitment to quality education and promised to work on their recommendations.

Also at the event, were faculty members of the Architecture Department, underscoring the collaborative effort to uphold and enhance the standards of architectural education at Covenant University.
