CUSSP Holds Pre-Examination Clinic, Family Meeting Series

Covenant University Student Support Programme (CUSSP) recently held a Pre-Examination Clinic and Family Meeting Series, aimed at preparing students for the upcoming Omega Semester examinations, with the theme, ‘Effective Study Techniques for Examination Excellence, Promoting Emotional Wellness for Positive Behavior.’

 In her welcome address at the event, the Chair, CUSSP, Professor Mojisola R. Usikalu, encouraged students to prepare thoroughly for their exams. She emphasized the importance of starting their revision early and approaching their studies as if they were the examiners. Professor Usikalu urged students to utilize the insights from the program to excel in their exams.

 One of the Speakers for the event, Dr. Susan O. Adeusi, a faculty, from the Department of Psychology, Covenant University, delivered a presentation on ‘Promoting Emotional Wellness for Positive Behavior’ during the Family Meeting Series session. She explained that the Family Meeting is a platform to discuss significant issues, strengthen family bonds, and promote overall well-being.

 She emphasized the critical role of emotions in human behavior and decision-making, categorizing emotions into basic and complex types. She advised students to manage their emotions effectively, especially during exam periods, to avoid negative impacts on their performance. Dr. Adeusi further highlighted the importance of emotional wellness, describing it as the ability to understand, accept, manage, and express emotions healthily and productively. She stressed the need for students to handle stress, maintain fulfilling relationships, and navigate life's challenges with resilience.

 She also discussed the benefits of positive behavior, including respect, empathy, responsibility, cooperation, and integrity, and provided strategies to promote emotional wellness and positive behavior.

 A second Speaker at the event, Dr. Jonathan Oluranti, Coordinator of the Covenant Center for Lifelong Learning, spoke on the topic, ‘Effective Study Techniques for Examination Excellence.’ He outlined key study techniques and skills necessary for outstanding exam performance. He emphasized the spiritual dimension of academic excellence, urging students to seek God's guidance and support in their endeavors.

 Dr. Oluranti advised students to discover their learning styles, plan their study sessions effectively, and set specific study goals. He recommended starting with the most challenging subjects, using class time wisely, reviewing class notes, maintaining consistent study times, and taking regular breaks. He warned against procrastination and emphasized the importance of spreading study time wisely and avoiding last-minute cramming.

 The event included an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing students to engage with the speakers and clarify their concerns.

 In her closing remarks, Professor Usikalu advised students to prepare adequately for exams, get enough rest, eat well, and avoid distractions. She encouraged them to balance study and leisure and to be cautious of actions that could lead to disciplinary issues.

 The event was attended by the University Chaplain, Pastor Judah ‘Ola; staff, students, and other members of CUSSP, all of whom expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights and guidance provided.
