Chancellor Urges Students To Engage In Productive Activities During The Holidays

The Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has called on the students of Covenant University to engage in productive activities during their Omega Semester break for the 2023/2024 academic session. This appeal was made during the Departure Assembly of the University, which marked the end of the academic session.

In his address, Dr. Oyedepo emphasized the importance of utilizing the holidays to build their spiritual lives. Referencing John 6:63, he highlighted the value of spiritual engagement over idle pursuits, encouraging students to be actively involved in good works to return as better versions of themselves. He cautioned against distractions, stressing that idle hands and minds are vulnerable to negative influences.

Dr. Oyedepo quoted the late renowned Evangelist Billy Graham, who stated, “Some temptations come to all, but all temptations come to idle men,” urging students to prioritize work over pleasure. He cited Proverbs 24:27, advocating for preparation and labor, before enjoyment. He reminded students that their youth is the 'planting season' of their lives and should be spent engaged in constructive activities.

He concluded by praying for the students' safe travels and encouraging them to maintain strong connections with their families.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, commended the students for their conduct during the recent examinations, noting a significant reduction in cases of exam malpractice. He expressed his hope for future cooperation to achieve zero exam misconduct.

Professor Adebayo also highlighted the numerous awards received by students and faculty throughout the session, attributing these achievements to divine support.

The registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi David, also thanked God for a successful session, quoting Psalm 115:1. She advised students to spend their holidays wisely and to remember they are ambassadors of Covenant University wherever they go.

Others at the event include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye, and other members of the University Management.
