Covenant University Appoints New Student Council Leaders

Covenant University has announced the appointment of a new Student Council for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The ceremony, which took place on the 29th of October 2024, during the Tuesday Chapel Service, saw the Dean of Students Affairs, Mrs. Shola Coker, announcing the names of the newly appointed leaders on behalf of the University Management.

The newly appointed student leaders, drawn from various departments and faculties, are tasked with representing the interests of their peers while upholding the University’s core values of discipline, integrity, and leadership. Their roles are crucial in fostering collaboration between the student body and the University Management, as well as ensuring the smooth functioning of student governance.

For the undergraduate leadership, Mr. Hanniel Amao, a 500-level student, was appointed Chairperson of the Council, while Miss Chidera Emmanuella Duru, also in her final year, was named Vice-Chair (Female).

Mr. Shemen Nana Sunny, a 400-level student, will serve as Vice-Chair (Male). Other key appointments include Miss Deborah John Olusegun, Executive Secretary; Miss Wuramide Dorcas Elegushi, Financial Secretary and Miss Oyiza Treasure Abdulsalam, Public Relations Officer.

The newly appointed Postgraduate Student Council includes Mr. Theophilus Nang Wakai (PhD), Chairperson; Miss Oghenemaero Oghale Olori (M.Sc); Vice-Chairperson; Mr. Daniel Oluwaremilekun Olusegun (PhD); Executive Secretary, and Miss Esther Effiong (MBA); Financial Secretary, among others.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, commended the new leaders for stepping into positions of responsibility and urged them to lead with service and commitment. "True leadership is about service, responsibility, and humility. I trust that each of you will uphold these values as you take on this important role," he remarked.

The event concluded with a special prayer led by the University Chaplain, Pastor Seun Olubanjo, who prayed for wisdom, strength, and guidance for the newly appointed leaders as they embark on their leadership journey.

The new Council members expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and vowed to work towards enhancing student welfare, strengthening communication with the administration, and promoting a vibrant campus community. Both undergraduate and postgraduate leaders promised to serve their respective communities diligently, with a focus on fostering collaboration and academic excellence.

Covenant University continues to prioritize leadership development, ensuring that its students are well-prepared to lead with integrity and excellence in their various fields.
