Registrar Urges Admin Staff to Enhance Digital Skills for Improved Service Delivery

The Registrar of Covenant University, Mr. Emmanuel K. Igban, has urged members of the University's administrative staff to enhance their digital skills to ensure more efficient and result-oriented performance in their roles.

He made this call during a training session held for the Non-Teaching Staff who work with the University's administrative platforms. The session took place at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies (CEDS) Multipurpose Hall on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Mr. Igban emphasized the importance of embracing the digital world to remain relevant in today’s fast-evolving global landscape. He noted that relying on outdated practices would not benefit either the individual or the organization. According to him, leveraging modern digital tools increases efficiency, accuracy, and speed, which ultimately enhances the effectiveness of employees.

"Our work today is increasingly driven by ICT, and that’s why we must innovate, learn, and optimize our operations," he said. "We’ve conducted a self-audit to assess our current capabilities and identified areas for improvement. It's crucial that we continue to move forward to meet the university’s needs and drive it toward excellence."

Igban also highlighted Covenant University’s growing status as a world-class institution, citing its impressive ranking of 73rd globally in the multidisciplinary sector, as well as its number-one position in Nigeria, West Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. "You are not just administrators; you are world-class administrators," he stated. "You must evolve and implement world-class processes to help propel the university further."

The Registrar encouraged the staff to embrace automation and ensure all administrative tasks are digitally based. Drawing on the biblical story of Abraham, Igban likened the university’s capacity-building efforts to how Abraham prepared his servants for battle, underscoring the importance of training to excel in emerging technologies, both soft and hard skills.

He concluded by emphasizing that the training aimed to help participants excel in their roles and benchmark their performance against administrators in top-tier institutions. He urged staff to remain attentive throughout the training to gain essential ICT skills that would support their development.

The session included hands-on training in Google Workspace, led by Mrs. Uti from the Registrar’s Office, and PowerPoint training, along with an introduction to Canva for presentations, conducted by Mr. David Isaac from the Vice-Chancellor's Office.
