The Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, played host to a Team, led by the District Governor of Rotary International, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson, who is in charge of District 9110, which comprises 146 Rotary Clubs in both Lagos and Ogun States.
Rotarian Lawson arrived at the University Campus with an entourage which included the President of the Rotary Club of Ota, Rotarian Alade Jimoh, who leads one of the clubs in Ogun State.
During her opening remarks at the event, Rotarian Lawson expressed her excitement at finally meeting the Vice Chancellor, as well as setting foot on Covenant University campus, which she described as one of her long-standing desires.
She commended the University Management for the great job the University is doing in Nigeria, and indeed, Africa, towards raising a new generation of leaders, and expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown to her team. Lawson also pleaded for areas of collaboration with the University, claiming that the two organizations could tackle many issues together, particularly those involving community impact.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo, noted the requests of the team and conveyed the University’s willingness to support the Rotary Club’s vision and also collaborate in areas that would move the country forward. He added that a paradigm shift is urgently needed in the Continent of Africa, especially Nigeria, to change the status quo and establish a sense of responsibility and value in the psyche of the average Nigerian.
He pointed out that the need to raise a new generation of leaders with new mindsets is what birthed the vision of Covenant University, noting that the core values of the University attest to the rigorous training and preparation the students have to go through in order to become change agents.
Professor Adebayo assured the team that Covenant University would work with them, especially in the area of Community Service, to create a positive and lasting impact.
Others at the event include the Director, Vice Chancellor’s Ofice, Professor Omotayo Osibanjo, the District Governor Nominee and Chairman, Ace Medicare, Dr. Wole Kukoyi, and other Senior Officers of the Rotary Club, Ota.
