Accreditation visits are all about peer review to better position academic programmes in all institutions of learning. This was the position of the team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the accreditation exercise for the Industrial Physics programme at Covenant University on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Speaking at the event, the leader of the delegation, Professor Osita Meludu, said the exercise is about certifying that the programme meets global standards as set by the NUC while ensuring that graduates of the programme can compete favourably with their peers around the world.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, welcomed the team to the University, stating that Covenant was enthused about the process of subjecting the Department of Industrial Physics to the scrutiny of knowledgeable experts in the same field.
Professor Adebayo promised the team unfettered access to the books and procedures of the Department, and to implement recommendations where necessary. "There are no perfect systems, but we will be ready to take every constructive criticism into consideration with the end goal being the improvement of the prospects of the programme both in the present and the future," he posited.
He noted that, from experience, every accreditation exercise is fashioned towards learning, adopting best practices, and seeing how to broaden the scope of learning in general.
On the ground to receive the team at the Vice-Chancellor’s office were the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David; Director, Financial Service, Pastor Olugbenga Kiki; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Timothy Anake; Director, Academic Planning Unit, Professor Philip Aizebokhai; Director, Centre for Learning Resources, Dr. Mercy Iroaganachi; Head, Department of Physics, Professor Mojisola Usikalu; Senior Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Gbemisola Benson; and Academic Planning Officer, Mrs. Olufunmilola Olorunwa.
