A delegation from Nigeria’s university regulatory body, the National Universities Commission (NUC), on accreditation assignment to four programmes at Covenant University has begun their certification inquest into the viability and compliance status of the four programmes.
Leading the 12-man panel on a courtesy call to the University Management, the Team Leader on accreditation for the Industrial Chemistry programme, Professor James Okuo, appreciated the hospitality extended to the delegation since its arrival, noting that the Executive Secretary to the NUC, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, holds Covenant University in high esteem.
Professor Okuo stated that the accreditation teams' mission is to provide evidence of Covenant University's good works in the nation's educational landscape rather than to be punitive.
"Our task is to add value to the blessing that Covenant University is to the nation, not to punish her good works that have become a reference point for all in the nation’s education sphere," he concluded.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, commended the team for undertaking this national assignment with direct bearing on the future of the nation.
Professor Adebayo, in the company of the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David, and other members of Management, said Covenant views any accreditation team visit as a potential partnership drive with the aim of bringing needed change to the education sector of the nation, noting that the issue of success and development at whatever level is a function of continuous improvement on the existing framework.
He noted that the University Management will view this visit as a peer review exercise, with the ultimate goal being institutional and organisational growth and development.
The 12-man panel will be spending the next two days going through the books of four programmes. These include English Language, Estate Management, Industrial Chemistry and Marketing.
