The Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, of Covenant University, has posited that the institution is not an ordinary University, as it has its foundation in a clear heavenly vision.
He made this assertion during a leadership development seminar convened on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, for the University Management, Directors and Heads of Units, tagged, ‘Unveiling the Spiritual Roots of Our University System.’
Speaking during the event, he emphasised that Covenant is owned, funded, run, preserved by the hand of God at work, and going from Glory to Glory. “There is nothing God does that does not work. The fear of God is at the foundation of Covenant University; God defined Hebron as his University where Kings and Queens shall be raised,” he stated
The Chancellor decried the level of careless living that has characterised the lives of many youths of this era. He pointed out the need for young people to embrace truth and imbibe biblical principles, stating that biblical principles guide destinies, while careless living does not have a future. Redemption, he said, can turn a celebrity out of a nonentity.
Elucidating on one of the topics, ‘Demands of Leadership Development’, he posited that what makes a leader is being able to see ahead of others, which is why every potential leader is usually far-sighted.
He described potential and emerging leaders as those who think the future and the coming generation. He stated that they do not only see ahead of others, but also go ahead to prove what they have seen. Every emerging leader, he said, is an explorer of things not yet known.
The Chancellor, explained that one’s thought pattern today, is what defines one’s experience tomorrow and until one changes the way one thinks, it is impossible to change the way he lives. According to him, whatever is too big for one’s mind, will be too big for his hand to handle.
He advised participants to strive for excellence in all they do, stating that the pursuit of excellence is what sustains relevance in one’s field. Going further, he defined excellence as a product of one’s tireless commitment to Improvement; stating that there are no finish-lines in the school of excellence.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, appreciated the Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents, for his generosity in constantly and deliberately providing platforms for the growth and development of faculty and staff.
He described the opportunity to glean from the Chancellor, as a timeless one, which requires to be given full attention so as to maximise it. He described the Chancellor as one who most people would give anything to be in his leadership class. He encouraged all participants to actually practice what they learn from the class in order to improve their lives and be more productive in their various assignments.
Also present in the event were the Deputy Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye, the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David and other members of Management.
