Covenant University, Rotary, ANPA Partner on a Weeklong Medical Mission in Ota

The leadership of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) and the Rotary Club District 9110 paid a courtesy call on the Management of Covenant University as part of the weeklong medical mission outreach to members of the Ado-Odo/Ota Community.

Speaking at the event, the District Governor of Rotary, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson, said members of the Rotary Club were on a thank-you visit to the university’s leadership for being a willing partner in advancing the spread of healthcare in the community.

Rotarian Lawson said that just like Covenant, ANPA has been a credible partner on the medical mission to Ota, all in the quest to give back to the community. She appreciated the support of the medical staff and leadership of ACE Medicare and Covenant University in commemorating 2023 World Malaria Day and for being active participants in the mission exercises throughout the week.

ANPA President, Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu, said the weeklong medical mission was about ensuring a healthier life through the provision of affordable healthcare and showing the people that society cares about their wellness.

Dr. Anyaogu said the weeklong mission was not just about the sick but also those that are not thriving at the very best of their health, as the medical mission was across varying degrees of medical interventions from dental to surgical, screening, and many more, which are all vital to the making of a healthy nation.

A member of the ANPA team, Professor Ajovi Scott-Emuakpor of Michigan State University, said the partnership between the Rotary and ANPA is a rare privilege that affords man the opportunity to be worthy of serving humanity.

Professor Scott-Emuakpor commended the management of Covenant University for the serene academic environment they have created in Nigeria. Professor Scott-Emuakpor said he was impressed and amazed by what was in place at the University, especially the safety of the campus.

"I have heard a lot about Covenant University, so I took my time to tour your university when I came, and I must say that I am impressed with the general environment," he enthused. He prayed for the continued sustenance of the standard of the university, noting that it was something to be proud of coming from Nigeria.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, appreciated the leadership of Rotary Club District 9110 and ANPA for making the medical mission a reality at such an auspicious time as this. He commended the large heart of the Chief Medical Officer of ACE Medicare, Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, for providing affordable and accessible healthcare solutions for the community.

Professor Adebayo said the initiative of ANPA is a tacit reversal of what has hitherto been considered a brain drain through gaining the requisite skillset globally and using it to positively impact lives in the home nation.

Furthermore, he called on both organisations not to relent in doing well in their humanitarian services, noting that it is the platform for greater living because it is when, as a people, we uphold the legacy of the contribution that we can collectively work at stemming the decadence in the body politic.

Professor Adebayo said the university management is looking forward with renewed enthusiasm to the fact that in a short while, there will be graduates of different spheres of medicine from the ranks of Covenant University that will join up with ANPA and the Rotary Club to continue to drive community development.

The Vice-Chancellor was inducted as an honourary member of Rotary District 9110. At the end of the week, the university management treated the members of both institutions to a special dinner in appreciation of their service to humanity.
