The Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, has joined the International Students of the University to celebrate the unity in diversity of different cultures and traditional foods in Africa, with a Food Fair, at the 2023 International Students' Week Celebration.
In his remarks at the event, the Vice-chancellor expressed his pleasure at having the international students in Covenant. He said, ‘This is home for you, you have a major stake here and you are part of those we are celebrating. This is what we do, we practice inclusion, there’s no discrimination here, irrespective of language barrier and where ever you came from.”
He appreciated the international students for making covenant University proud and enjoined them to use what they have learned in the University to transform the world.
The Vice-Chancellor, along with the registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David, interacted with the students from countries like Malawi, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania and others, as they shared brief history of their countries.
The vice chancellor, the registrar and some members of the Students Council, made a tour round the different African foods prepared by the students. Some of the foods displayed were from countries like Benin Republic, Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania, Cameroon and others.
In response to the Vice Chancellor’s remarks, the President of the International Students Association, Mr. Lumbani Nyirenda, from Malawi, appreciated the University Management for the unwavering support which they have received this year. Adding that the International Students will remain worthy ambassadors of the University just as the theme of the event tagged, ‘Global Union of Eagles,’ implied.
He promised that as they graduate and depart from the Campus, great impact should be expected from them globally, as they spread the good news of Covenant University wherever they go.
Other events that accompanied the weeklong celebration includes a Chapel Service ministration by the International Students’ Choir, a Career Talk, a symposium, a Food Fair and an excursion to the Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos.
