Covenant University Strengthens Engineering Excellence as Vice-Chancellor Engages Faculty on Development Needs

Covenant University reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and infrastructural growth as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, paid a strategic visit to the College of Engineering. The meeting, held at the College of Engineering Conference Room, provided a platform for open dialogue between the University leadership and faculty members.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Oluseye Ajayi, proudly announced that all engineering programs are set to undergo Outcome-Based Education (OBE) accreditation, for which they are well-prepared. He expressed confidence in the college’s success, emphasizing that engineering students from Covenant University have consistently emerged as the best in the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Competition over the past two years.

Professor Anake underscored the importance of the visit, stating that it was an opportunity to hear directly from faculty members regarding their contributions and concerns. “This is a day to listen, assess, and see what needs to be put together for the continued success of the university,” he remarked.

The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Igban, commended the College of Engineering for upholding Covenant University’s vision, despite having the largest student population on campus. He noted that feedback from industries worldwide confirms that the college’s graduates continue to excel. Encouraging faculty members to sustain their efforts, he emphasized the management’s dedication to addressing their needs for further advancement.

Echoing this sentiment, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Lanre Amodu, reiterated the university’s commitment to listening and implementing solutions swiftly. He acknowledged the faculty’s dedication to nurturing students and fostering innovation. “We are here to connect with the people behind the work and ensure that ideas thrive,” he stated.

Faculty members and department heads took the opportunity to appreciate the university management for its continued provision of essential resources. However, they also highlighted areas needing improvement, including additional laboratory equipment, classroom furniture, air conditioning, functional smart boards, specialized computers for Mechanical Engineering, and an annex building to accommodate the growing student population. Requests were also made for a mini lecture theatre, salary increments, improved lighting, and enhanced support staff for laboratories.

In response, Professor Anake assured the faculty that their concerns were being noted by the Physical Planning & Development (PPD) and ICT departments. He encouraged them to submit formal requests with detailed budgets to facilitate efficient decision-making. He also announced that smart boards would soon be delivered and that postgraduate supervisors’ honorary payments were under review.

Reaffirming the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence, Professor Anake emphasized that all concerns would be addressed to foster an environment where both faculty and students can thrive.

With this visit, Covenant University continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution dedicated to academic and technological advancements, ensuring that the College of Engineering remains at the forefront of innovation and success.
