Union Bank Executives Visit Covenant University, Seek Partnership

A delegation from the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, led by Mr. Adekola Alonge, the Regional Head, Southwest, paid a courtesy visit to the Covenant University Management in a bid to establish relationship and explore opportunities for collaboration with the institution.

Speaking on behalf of Union Bank, Mr. Adekola Alonge, emphasized the Bank’s longstanding commitment to the support of excellence. He expressed the Bank’s keen interest in strengthening its relationship with Covenant University and providing tailored financial solutions that meet the needs of the academic community.

"We recognize Covenant University’s role in shaping future leaders, and we are eager to contribute to that vision by offering innovative and reliable financial services," Alonge stated. He also acknowledged past challenges and reaffirmed Union Bank’s readiness to take responsibility.

While welcoming the Union Bank team and introducing the University’s management team, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Igban, appreciated God for where the University is today, and affirmed the strong conviction that very shortly, Covenant University will rank among the top ten world-class universities. He pointed out that Covenant University is already a world-class university.

“We are not just saying this, but all ranking bodies have validated it. Just recently, Times Higher Education rated Covenant University under its interdisciplinary science research as number one in Nigeria, number one in West Africa, number one in Sub-Saharan Africa, and number three in the whole of Africa,” he stated

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, acknowledged the bank’s transformation and repositioning in the market. He highlighted that Covenant University is open to partnerships with institutions that provide strong, reliable services; emphasizing that sustained collaboration will depend on the quality of service rendered.

“And so for us, it's simply transformation, innovation, and creativity to meet the market. As long as Union Bank has moved up to that place, I'm sure the market is open. There's a competition and you can only grab your share according to your positioning. I’m glad to know that people can come from anywhere now to join Union Bank; and not the rising from the bottom to the top, as it used to be in Union Bank. That tradition was held so fast that the Bank was finding it difficult to transform. So it's good that there's transformation now and all kinds of ideas have come up. I believe there's that platform now for everyone, beyond the old personnel, to relate with Union Bank. So it's good to hear that those transformations have occurred,”

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lanre Amodu, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the University’s mission. He stressed that Covenant University prioritizes collaborations that bring real value beyond just financial transactions.

"We are deliberate about the kind of partnerships we engage in. At Covenant University, we do not just seek financial services; we seek partners who align with our vision and can add real value to our students and staff," he stated

Speaking during the meeting, the Director, Financial Services, Pastor Samuel Audu, noted that the University values partnerships that bring impactful solutions. He assured Union Bank that the institution remains open to collaborations that align with its goals.

“For us, relationships with institutions are not just about formality, we want partnerships. We want you to be a aligned with us. I think it’s on that partnership basis that we can create mutual benefits. If Union Bank has new innovations, unique services or solutions that impact our students and community, why not? If students no longer need to travel far to complete transactions, why not? Send us proposals, we’ll review them and see how we can collaborate.”

The discussions concluded on a positive note, with both parties agreeing to explore ways to create value for the Covenant University community through a mutually beneficial partnership.
